Write down a normal week
How many kilometres, how much of it in traffic, how many people usually travel and how often you take long trips. That picture narrows the choice more than any spec sheet.
Match the body type
- Hatchback: easy to park, economical, ideal for city use.
- Sedan: quieter and more comfortable on highways, bigger boot.
- Compact SUV: higher seating and ground clearance in a city-friendly size.
- SUV or MUV: space for six or seven, better for rough roads and family trips.
Set the full budget
Add insurance, registration transfer, a first service and tyres if they are worn. The cheapest car to buy is not always the cheapest to own.
Think about resale
Popular models with good service networks are easier to maintain and to sell later.
Shortlist two or three cars and drive them back to back on the same day. The differences become obvious.
