Paying for a car does not make you its legal owner. Ownership changes only when the registration certificate (RC) is transferred to your name at the RTO.

The usual documents

  • Form 29 (notice of transfer) and Form 30 (application for transfer), signed by seller and buyer
  • Original RC, valid insurance and a valid pollution (PUC) certificate
  • ID and address proof of both parties
  • Bank NOC and Form 35 if the car had a loan
  • NOC from the original RTO if the car is registered in another state

Before you pay

  • Confirm the RC details on the government Vahan/Parivahan portal.
  • Check for unpaid traffic fines against the registration number.
  • Make sure the seller’s name matches the RC.

After the sale

Submit the transfer application promptly, and transfer the insurance into your name. Keep copies of everything the seller signs.

When you buy from Quality Cars, we help prepare and file the transfer paperwork.
